Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Yfoundations. Volunteering is more than helping to improve the lives of young people experiencing homelessness.

 

 

 

Yfoundations is working to create a future without youth homelessness. We work with NGOs, government departments and community members, to provide policy and structural advocacy, health education projects, and research and sector development.

Yfoundations is seeking volunteers/interns in the following roles:

  • Social Media Officer
  • Policy Research Assistant
  • Campaign Organiser
  • Administrative Assistant
  • Health Project Officer

General Information

Location: Unit 1, Level 1, 619 Elizabeth St, Redfern NSW 2016
Hours: One to three days per week (negotiable), for 3 months or longer

Criteria:

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent computer, phone and administration skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Interest in youth homelessness and/or the non-profit and community sector
  • Excellent coffee making skills (just kidding!)

Role-specific Information

Social Media Officer

Role: Reviewing relevant online and print media on a weekly to daily basis. Relevant articles are identified through Google search alerts and reading the articles of publications that frequently include relevant articles. The objectives of the role are to:

  1. Generate tweets and posts used to maintain Yfoundations’ social media profile
  2. Generate material for Yfoundations’ newlettters
  3. Assist the Senior Policy Officer (and others) to stay informed of relevant current events
  4. Provide the Senior Policy Officer (and others) with information on the ‘media landscape’

Responsible to: Senior Policy Officer

Criteria:

  • Familiarity with a range of social media (e.g. twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc)
  • Ability to find and summarise online media article relevant to a particular topic (e.g. youth homelessness)

 

Policy Research Assistant

Role: Assisting the Senior Policy Officer by conducting background desktop research on topics relating to youth homelessness, and writing research briefs that may be incorporated into Yfoundations publications.

Responsible to: Senior Policy Officer

Criteria:

  • Excellent online research skills
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely

 

Campaign Organiser

Role: Duties will include working on developing a database of appropriate journalists and connect with them as well as developing creative online content and event promotion. Role will also include assisting in developing, writing and distributing media releases to promote Youth Homelessness Matters Day in NSW.

Responsible to: Senior Policy Officer

Criteria:

  • Familiarity with or study of writing news articles and/or media releases
  • Skills in event management and/or marketing

 

Administrative Assistant

Role: The Administrative Assistant will provide support to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the organisation. On a day-to-day basis the administrative assistant will; sort and distribute incoming mail, answer telephone enquiries, assist in filing and storing documents, and perform general adhoc office administration duties.

Responsible to: Admin Support Staff & Executive

Criteria:

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent computer, phone and administration skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Interest in youth homelessness and/or the non-profit and community sector

 

Health Project Assistant

Role: Provide support to the health team through tasks such as data entry, program planning and written evaluations. This role also requires assisting the health team in Yfoundations training programs when necessary, maintenance of the Youth Point, youth services directory and generalist research and administration tasks.

Responsible to: Education Manager

Criteria:

  • Understanding of project development and evaluation
  • Excellent computer, phone and administration skills
  • Knowledge of government, non-profit and community sector
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

 

Events Assistant

Role: Provide assistance with the organisation of significant events such as forums, high-level workshops and conferences.

Responsible to: Senior Policy Officer

Criteria:

  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of or experience with the organisation of events
